I've been hearing new controversy of late about the long-controversial career of a famed megachurch pastor. Critics decry his offensive behavior, alienating leadership style, and history of vulgar quips. Supporters say he is a Biblically-based man whose hard work created some of the largest church and parachurch organizations in the country.
I really have nothing to say that has not been said by far smarter people. Only one thought occurs to me:
The shepherd who knocks on the gates to heaven will not be asked, "Did you build an empire?" but "Did you tend my sheep as I taught you?"
We are not judged by the world's standard of greatness, but by the Lord's, and his standard puts lowliness, humility, love, gentleness, and servitude above all else.
